Tragic Two-Vehicle Collision Claims Life of Bakersfield Resident

LOS BANOS, CA – November 6, 2023 – In a devastating incident this morning, a fatal two-vehicle crash occurred in the vicinity of Rowlee Road, just south of Burbank Street. The California Highway Patrol, Buttonwillow Area Office, swiftly responded to the scene following multiple calls received by the Bakersfield Communications Center at approximately 6:56 am.

The victim, identified as a 21-year-old female from Bakersfield, CA, was operating a 2016 Nissan Sentra, traveling northbound on Rowlee Road south of Burbank Street. Unfortunately, due to circumstances yet to be determined, the Nissan Sentra collided with the rear backhoe bucket of a John Deere Tractor driven by Mr. Victor Duarte Lopez, a resident of Buttonwillow, CA. Mr. Duarte Lopez was driving the tractor in the same direction as the Nissan, at an approximate speed of 20 miles per hour.

Tragically, the driver of the Nissan was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of kin. However, authorities have confirmed that alcohol or drugs were not contributing factors in the incident.

Mr. Duarte Lopez sustained minor injuries in the crash but did not require transportation to a medical facility for further treatment.
