Merced, CA – Former Mayor of Merced, Mike Murphy, has officially announced his candidacy for California State Assembly District 27, bringing a proven record of leadership and a deep commitment to the communities of the Central Valley.

Murphy, a longtime resident of Merced, has been a steadfast advocate for the region’s working families, businesses, and agricultural industry. As a two-term Mayor of Merced, he spearheaded initiatives to improve public safety, expand economic opportunities, and enhance the public’s infrastructure. Now, he is ready to take his experience to the state legislature to work on the state issues that matter most to the people of District 27.

California’s Central Valley is the backbone of our state, and for too long we’ve been ignored and left behind by the politicians in Sacramento,” said Murphy. “I am running to be a champion for the Valley, to increase public safety, reduce the cost of living, improve transportation, increase access to quality healthcare, and create a secure water supply—because these are the issues that directly impact our families, businesses, and future generations.”

Murphy brings a wealth of experience to the race. A Georgetown Law graduate, he has built a successful career as a business attorney. During his tenure as Mayor, he focused on growing the local economy, including supporting small businesses and reinvigorating the city’s downtown, and making Merced a more attractive place to live and work. His leadership was instrumental in improving public safety readiness and response, creating a budget surplus, ensuring clean drinking water for all residents, developing safe routes to school for students, increasing opportunities for higher education, and reducing government red tape.

Murphy and his wife, Heather, remain active in the community and have four children. His campaign will focus on engaging with voters across Assembly District 27 to listen, learn, and develop solutions that uplift all residents.
