Los Banos, CA (September 18, 2025) — Los Banos voters have elected Mitzy Perez to the City Council representing District 1, following a special election held on August 26, 2025. Perez received 263 votes, or 53.89% of the total ballots cast, defeating opponent Kalid “Virriy” Sanchez, who garnered 222 votes (45.49%). An additional three votes (0.61%) were cast for write-in candidates. In total, 488 ballots were submitted in the election, which was held to fill the vacancy left after the resignation of the previous councilmember.

The special election was scheduled by the City of Los Banos to ensure District 1 residents regained full representation on the City Council. Vote-by-mail ballots were distributed beginning July 28, with drop box and in-person voting options available through Election Day.

Mitzy Perez is scheduled to be officially sworn into office on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, during the City Council’s regular meeting — the second Wednesday of the month. She will serve the remainder of the unexpired term and is expected to bring a new perspective to the council as Los Banos continues to address key local issues, including housing, infrastructure, and economic development.
