Shots Fired During Vigil Near Site of Recent Double Juvenile Homicide in Merced

Merced, CA (January 22, 2026) — Merced Police confirmed that shots were fired during a vigil held near the Merced County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services building at the intersection of 13th and D streets in Merced.

According to the Merced Police Department, no one was injured in the incident, and officers have found no evidence indicating that anyone was targeted during the gunfire. Authorities have not confirmed who the vigil was held for, however, the incident occurred in the same general area where two teen boys were shot and killed Monday night. That double homicide remains under investigation, and no arrests have been made in connection with the earlier shooting.
