Los Banos, CA (September 22, 2025) — When I was elected Mayor in November, I promised to work with our City Council to create a more transparent, efficient, and vibrant city for all residents. I am proud to report that together we are making real progress.
This year, we balanced a $130 million budget with a 10 percent surplus. That surplus was added to our general fund reserves, which now stand at 30 percent, our community’s safety net for future challenges. At the same time, we invested in services that matter. 19 new positions were funded, including two fire battalion chiefs, and we approved construction of Fire Station No. 4 with a new emergency operations center to cover the west side of Merced County.
Our community services continue to grow. We opened a new animal shelter and greatly increased its budget, ensuring more compassionate care. Two new parks have been added for families to enjoy, and a welcoming downtown entry archway now greets visitors and residents alike. We also began designing a new Public Services Building at the annex across from city hall. This will make city services more efficient by bringing them all under one roof.
Technology upgrades are underway. Soon, residents will be able to pay for every city service online, and our updated website will make it easier to stay informed. To strengthen communication, the council and I have launched “park-side chats,” meeting directly with residents in neighborhoods to hear their ideas and concerns.
Looking ahead, we are working to bring more affordable middle-income housing to Los Banos and partnering to attract new, well-paying jobs. These efforts will strengthen our economy while giving families the chance to live and work right here at home.
This column is another way to stay connected. Each week, I will share updates, highlight community achievements, and answer your questions. Together, we can build a stronger future for Los Banos.
