At approximately 0344 hours on January 1, 2024, a traffic collision involving a Toyota sedan occurred on Lake Road, east of Roberts Ferry Road. The California Highway Patrol and emergency personnel responded to find the vehicle overturned off the south road edge. The driver, 23-year-old Isaac Urbeana from La Grange, CA, sustained minor injuries. Two rear passengers, a 23-year-old male from Modesto and a 21-year-old female from Turlock, were ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene. Front passenger Amber Sauls was transported to Doctors Medical Center with major injuries. Preliminary investigations suggest Urbeana, under the influence of alcohol, failed to negotiate a bend, leading to the crash. He was arrested for felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.
The CHP would like to remind all motorists DUI crashes are 100% preventable. Also, seat belts, when worn properly, have the ability to save your life when involved in a traffic collision.
