July 23, 2024 LOS BANOS, CA – The nomination period for candidates running for local office in Los Banos in the General Election on November 5th opened on Monday, July 15th. The filing period closes on Friday, August 9th and is extended five days to Wednesday, August 14th in races where the incumbent is not running again.
City races include mayor for a two-year term, city council Districts 1 and 4 for four-year terms and city treasurer, also for a four-year term. Races for the Los Banos Unified School District Board of Trustees include Areas 2, 4 and 6.
The filing nomination period for write-in candidates in all races is September 9th through October 22nd.
Candidates for school board must file a Declaration of Candidacy. Candidates for city offices must obtain a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 30 nomination signatures of registered voters in the districts in which they’re running and can submit a candidate statement which will be included in the Voter Guide sent to all voters, for a fee as follows:
- Mayor and City Treasurer $1,022.00
- Los Banos Councilmember, Districts 1 or 4 $567.00
- Los Banos Unified School District, Area 2 $517.00, Area 4 $510.00 and Area 6 $513.00

Also on the November 5th ballot will be the recalls of District 2 Councilman Brett Jones and District 3 Councilman Doug Begovia. With the change in state law for local recall elections, a replacement candidate election no longer occurs on the same day. If either or both incumbents are recalled, the remaining council members can either appoint their replacements or hold a special election to fill the seat(s).
