MERCED, CA — Merced College is now enrolling students for its College for Kids<https://www.mccd.edu/schools-programs/community-education/college-for-kids/> summer program, a beloved community tradition offering hands-on enrichment and athletic experiences for children ages 5 to 14.

Classes begin June 9 and run through July 31 on the Merced College main campus, with additional offerings at the Los Banos Campus from July 7 to July 31.

“For nearly 50 years, College for Kids has provided local families with a fun, affordable way to keep their children active, engaged, and learning during the summer,” said Jill Cunningham, Vice President of External Relations. “This program is a great example of Merced College’s commitment to community connection and lifelong learning.”

This year’s lineup includes dozens of classes in science, art, music, athletics, swimming, and more. Popular choices include Line Dancing, Slime Creations, Hands-On Science & Engineering, Hula Dance, Streetwise Self Defense, Beginner’s Piano, and Dinosaurs, Earthquakes & Volcanoes. The program also features multiple swim sessions and sports camps in soccer, softball, volleyball, tennis, baseball, and cheer.

A highlight of this year’s program is the return of Theater Camp, which will stage the original musical “Shhh! At The Sugar Cube Cafe.” The class runs July 7 to Aug. 2, with performances on Aug. 1 and 2 at the Merced College Theater.

“College for Kids is about having fun and getting to feel like you’re part of the Merced College community,” said Matt Escobar, Community Education Coordinator. “It’s a chance for kids to try something new and get a little taste of college in a fun, supportive environment.”

Classes are open to students entering 2nd through 8th grades, though some age ranges vary by activity. Most sessions run Monday through Thursday, with several classes offered across four sessions throughout the summer. Classes in Los Banos include Slime Creations, Arts & Crafts, Soccer, and more.
