Fresno, Calif. — The Central Unified School District has selected Dr. Mark E. Marshall as its new superintendent, effective June 10. Dr. Marshall brings nearly 40 years of experience in education, most recently serving as superintendent of Los Banos Unified School District for eight years. During his tenure there, he managed a $200 million budget, oversaw approximately 11,000 students and 1,200 staff members, and played a key role in passing local bond Measure X. He also secured over $62 million in competitive grants and led the district to achieve its second California Distinguished School award.

Central Unified parted ways with former Superintendent Ketti Davis in March. Since then, Dr. Eimear O’Brien, former superintendent of Clovis Unified, has been serving as interim superintendent. The district expressed appreciation for Dr. O’Brien’s leadership during this transitional period.

The Board of Trustees highlighted Dr. Marshall’s student-focused approach, collaborative leadership style, and dedication to fostering inclusive school cultures that emphasize equity and academic excellence. In a statement, the district noted that Dr. Marshall will soon begin engaging with students, staff, families, and community members as he prepares to assume his new role.
