Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies Planned in Dos Palos

On May 6, 2025 by County of Merced

At 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, the Merced County Association of Governments, Merced County, City of Dos Palos, and community members will gather to celebrate ribbon cuttings for the recently completed Lorraine Street Bridge and Jerry O’Banion Library/Del Hale Hall Community Center.

The first part of the event will celebrate the grand opening of the newly renovated Lorraine Street Bridge—infrastructure that is critical to connecting the Dos Palos community. The Lorraine Street Bridge project was made possible through $1.4 million in Westside Regional Measure V project funding.

The second part of the event celebrating the grand opening of the Jerry O’Banion Library and newly renovated Del Hale Hall will immediately follow the ribbon cutting of the Lorraine Street Bridge. The Jerry O’Banion Library, named after the former District 5 Supervisor of 28 years and Dos Palos Mayor, and Del Hale Hall renovation were made possible through $3 million in state funding secured by Senator Anna Caballero and a $2.7 million Building Forward Grant from the California State Library. The library site was relocated from the prior location at the corner of Golden Gate Avenue and Almond Street.

“This is a momentous day for Dos Palos,” said District 5 Supervisor Scott Silveira. “These ribbon cutting ceremonies reflect significant investments being made in infrastructure, learning opportunities, and overall quality of life standards. And I’m particularly proud that the new library is being named after my predecessor and long-time mentor, former Supervisor Jerry O’Banion—a man who is revered in Dos Palos and throughout Merced County for his many years of dedicated public service.”
