Merced County, CA (October 22, 2025) — The Merced County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents to be on alert after receiving multiple reports of scam calls from individuals falsely claiming to be Sheriff’s Office staff.

According to the Merced County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, the callers are telling residents they have an outstanding warrant and must take immediate action, often demanding payment or personal information over the phone. Officials emphasized that these calls are not legitimate.

“The Merced County Sheriff’s Office will never call to inform you of a warrant, demand money, or request personal details,” the department stated in its advisory. “If a legitimate warrant has been issued, you will not be notified by phone.”

Residents are urged to remain cautious, avoid sharing personal or financial information with unknown callers, and report any suspicious activity directly to the Sheriff’s Office.

Anyone who receives a similar call can contact the Merced County Sheriff’s Office at (209) 385-7445 or visit www.mercedsheriff.com for verified information.
