
Dos Palos, CA (March 2, 2026) — A fatal crash early Sunday morning along State Route 33 north of Dos Palos caused a major power outage and forced the temporary closure of a key stretch of highway, according to authorities.
The collision occurred on SR-33 at Cypress Road, where a vehicle struck a power pole, knocking out electricity to residents in the surrounding area. The impact caused significant damage to utility infrastructure, leading to widespread outages while repair crews worked to restore service.
In an official release, the California Highway Patrol confirmed that State Route 33 near Dos Palos Y was closed from Azusa Avenue to Eucalyptus Road due to the fatal crash. Authorities stated the roadway would remain closed until 6 p.m., urging drivers to follow posted detours and use alternative routes. CHP also reminded the public that “seat belts save lives and must be used by all occupants.”
Emergency responders remained on scene for several hours as investigators examined the circumstances surrounding the crash. Officials have confirmed at least one fatality but have not yet released the identity of the person who died. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
