Suspected DUI Crash Near Los Banos Kills Driver

On Sunday, May 11, 2025, a fatal collision occurred near Los Banos, California, resulting in the death of one individual. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the incident around 3:30 a.m. on State Route 165 near Santa Fe Grade. According to CHP reports, a vehicle attempting to pass another car collided with it, causing the passing vehicle to veer off the road and into a canal. The driver of the vehicle that entered the canal was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle involved did not sustain injuries. Authorities have indicated that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash.

The CHP is conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the exact circumstances leading to the collision. As of now, the identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
