On November 17, 2025 by California Highway Patrol

Winton, CA – (November 17, 2025) — On Friday, A late-night police pursuit on through Merced County reached speeds close to 120 miles per hour before ending in Livingston, according to a statement released by CHP Merced on its official Facebook page.

CHP officials said the incident began when officers attempted to stop a Ford Mustang on Mercedes Avenue near Santa Fe Avenue in Winton. The driver refused to pull over, prompting a high-speed pursuit through community streets and county roadways.

The chase continued into Livingston, where it concluded near 9th Street and Park Avenue. No injuries were reported, and CHP Merced has not released further details regarding the driver or potential charges as of Thursday.

In the Facebook post, CHP Merced emphasized the danger created when motorists flee from law enforcement, noting that high-speed pursuits endanger families in their homes, late-night workers, and anyone traveling on the roadway.

The Merced CHP also highlighted the often unseen work of its overnight team, stating that the graveyard shift routinely recovers stolen vehicles, responds to collisions, and assists allied agencies throughout the county during the hours most residents are asleep.

CHP Merced wants to remind drivers that the safest choice when emergency lights appear behind them is to pull over.
