
PATTERSON, CA (September 3 2025) — On September 2, 2025, at approximately 11:10 p.m., the California Highway Patrol (CHP) received a call regarding a disabled motorist attempting to wave down traffic on northbound I-5, south of Sperry Avenue. CHP personnel arrived on scene and located an unoccupied Hyundai sedan on the right shoulder. A search of the area revealed a male adult lying in the center median with injuries consistent of being struck by a motor vehicle. Unfortunately, the male adult, an 84-year-old from Lamont, CA, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the male adult had parked his vehicle on the right shoulder of northbound I-5, south of Sperry Avenue. The driver exited the vehicle and attempted to get the attention of passing motorists. The male then entered the northbound traffic lanes, where he was struck by an unknown passing motorist. The driver continued northbound on I-5 without stopping.
