Fatal Accident in Southbound State Route 99 from 7th Standard

On April 3, 2023, at approximately 0104 hours, Bakersfield Communication Center (BCC) received a call of a pedestrian laying in the roadway southbound State Route 99 at 7th Standard Road. Officers of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Bakersfield Area office responded to the scene. Officers arrived on scene and determined this incident was a traffic crash which resulted in one fatality.

An unknown vehicle was traveling southbound on State Route 99 from 7th Standard Road, on the on-ramp at an unknown speed. For unknown reasons, the pedestrian was walking across the on-ramp and traveled directly in the path of the unknown vehicle. The front of the unknown vehicle struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian fell onto the roadway where he came to rest. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene. The unknown vehicle fled the scene.

Southbound State Route 99 from 7th Standard was closed for approximately two hours for investigation.

Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to have been a factor.
