
Los Banos, CA (January 7, 2026) – The City of Los Banos announces that District 2 Council Member Evan Sanders, who has served the community with dedication and commitment, will resign from the Los Banos City Council effective January 9, 2026.
Council Member Sanders is stepping down in preparation to relocate to the East Coast for a professional opportunity.
Council Member Sanders has been an invaluable part of our community leadership, serving with integrity, passion, and a deep commitment to improving the quality of life for Los Banos residents. During his tenure, he supported initiatives that strengthened city services, supported local businesses, and fostered a sense of unity and engagement in our city. He also played a key role in prioritizing city resources to address homelessness.
Mayor Michael Amabile said, “I have truly enjoyed working with Council Member Evan Sanders, and I’m grateful for the thoughtful, positive perspective he brought to our city. His ideas and approach were always constructive and helped move our community forward. While we are sad to see him go, we wish Evan and his family nothing but success and happiness as they begin this next chapter.”
Mayor Pro Tem Deborah Lewis (District 4) shared, “It has been a pleasure working with Council Member Evan Sanders. Over the past year, he has demonstrated his thoughtful ideas and professionalism to help his District and to make a smoother and effortless transition from a difficult time. I wish him well in their future endeavors.”
Council member Marcus Chavez (District 3) said, “I want to thank Council Member Sanders for his year of dedicated service to the people of Los Banos. His leadership, commitment, and vision have left a lasting impact on our community. While he will certainly be missed, I wish him all the best in his future endeavors and continued success in all that he pursues.”
Council member Mitzy Perez (District 1) stated, “While my time working with Evan was brief, he was supportive and helpful as I stepped into this role as a new council member. I’m grateful for his guidance and willingness to share his experience. I wish him the very best.”
The City will discuss the process to fill the vacancy at a future open public meeting. Updates will be posted on the City’s official website and social media channels.
