Fishing in the main reservoir has improved this week as the last storm has moved through the area- creating a more stable barometer reading this week. Topwater action has been up and down but if you’re in the right area , or cove it’s possible to end up fishing some boils right now. There have been a few larger stripers taken over 10 lbs this past week , indicating that the fall fishing season is upon us now.
The trolling bite has been up and down- because the main problem remains finding active schools of fish that are searching for the bait balls that can be found all over the lake. Working the depths from 40’-80 ‘ over flats areas in the main lake , seems to be the sweet spot . We have been trolling Lucky Crafts and Rapalas in silver black colors at 2 mph about 100-120 feet back of the ball for our fish. I took out 2 guests this week and after looking all over the main lake , we ended up working a flats area for 15 released schoolie stripers up to 23”. The fish are in good shape and filled out. Little info on the minnow bite – but guys told me it’s slow.
The water level is pretty stable at 1,080,000 acre feet and falling slowly. Water temps are going down and we’re at about 67 degrees in the morning. Visibility has gone down a bit and it seems that a lot of the algae is starting to die causing the water to turn a tannic color.
Forecast high pressure this coming week could trigger a better bite overall. Good luck .
Never give up!
