Merced, CA (August 28th, 2025) – Castle Airport is slated to receive more than $200,000 in federal grant funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation for critical airport improvements.
The funding, distributed through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), will support three key projects at Castle Airport:
- Rotating Beacon Replacement — $47,500
- Automated Weather Monitoring System Updates — $62,775
- Lighting Installation Project — $97,527
- Total investment: $207,802
These projects will enhance safety, efficiency, and reliability at Castle Airport—modernizing the site while better assisting pilots during takeoffs and landings.
“Castle Airport is one of Merced County’s greatest assets, and these FAA investments strengthen its role as a hub for innovation and growth,” said Supervisor Daron McDaniel, whose District 3 includes Castle Airport. “Improvements like this not only enhance aviation operations, they help attract new industry, expand job opportunities, and keep Castle at the center of our region’s economic future.”

The improvements are part of Merced County’s ongoing efforts to strengthen aviation operations at Castle Airport while promoting business development throughout Castle Commerce Center.
