The solar installation is expected to save the city at least $380,000
Los Banos, CA (October 18, 2025) — Los Banos Mayor Michael Amabile, State Assemblymember Esmeralda Soria and other local leaders joined the City of Los Banos and Peninsula Clean Energy at a ribbon cutting celebrating 277 kilowatts of solar being generated at the Los Banos Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The solar installation is part of Peninsula Clean Energy’s GovPV program and is part of a continued successful partnership with the City of Los Banos that is expected to save the city at least $380,000 over the 20-year life of the power purchase agreement.
“This solar project is a great example of how smart partnerships can benefit our residents for years to come,” Mayor Amabile said. “By working with Peninsula Clean Energy, we’re saving taxpayer dollars by reducing our energy costs. The savings from this project allow us to invest more in the things that matter, our neighborhoods, parks, and city services.”
“Peninsula Clean Energy’s new solar project will save Los Banos residents thousands of dollars,” Assemblymember Soria said. “Our community continues to benefit from Peninsula Clean Energy’s innovative effort to produce energy at no upfront cost to the city of Los Banos. Our underserved region in the Central Valley needs community partners like this, and it’s important we continue to work as strong partners for the future of Los Banos.”
“Thanks to our positive and productive relationship with the city and our other area leaders, we are increasingly supplying our Los Banos customers with clean power right here at home that is saving them money every month on their electricity bill,” Peninsula Clean Energy CEO Shawn Marshall said.
State Sen. Anna Caballero’s office also presented a certificate praising the “deeply appreciated and truly commendable” partnership between the city and Peninsula Clean Energy and “investing in the future economic and environmental prosperity of the City of Los Banos.”
Peninsula Clean Energy directly owns and operates the solar installation, which is producing electricity at no upfront cost to the City of Los Banos. The city is also paying a lower fixed price for the electricity than it would normally have to pay for buying electricity from the larger utility grid, especially as those utility grid rates have been rapidly rising due to transmission and distribution costs. This frees up the City of Los Banos to invest resources on other areas of need in its community.
Other local leaders at the ribbon cutting included Los Banos Community & Economic Development Director Stacy Souza Elms.
Marshall and other Peninsula Clean Energy leaders also joined a separate Oct. 17 ribbon cutting hosted by Renewable America to celebrate the operation of the 3-megawatt Dos Palos solar facility, which is part of Peninsula Clean Energy’s Green Access Program and will also provide locally-produced clean power to Los Banos.
