LOS BANOS, CA (October 29, 2025) — According to a press release from the DMV, The California Department of Motor Vehicles has announced that the Los Banos field office, located at 814 West L Street, will reopen to the public at 8 a.m. on Thursday, October 30, following a temporary closure earlier this month for mold remediation. The office will resume limited hours of operation, opening to the public on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Los Banos DMV office originally closed on October 2 after mold was detected in the facility, prompting remediation work to ensure a safe environment for employees and customers. During the closure, residents were directed to nearby DMV offices in Merced, Turlock, and Gilroy for in-person services. The department says the reopening will restore local access for residents who prefer or require in-office visits.
Officials are encouraging customers to use online resources whenever possible. Many DMV transactions, including driver’s license renewals, vehicle registration updates, and address changes, can be completed at dmv.ca.gov without visiting an office. The department also offers a Service Advisor tool to help residents determine whether their task can be completed online or requires an appointment.
Customers can further streamline their experience by creating a secure online account and opting for paperless notices for vehicle registration and driver’s license renewals. DMV officials emphasize that these digital services not only save time but also help reduce office traffic, allowing staff to better assist those who must appear in person.
