Los Banos, CA (August 26, 2025) — A 26-year-old man from Los Banos, California, was arrested early Friday morning after allegedly entering a Lake Havasu City home and falling asleep in the homeowners’ bedroom, according to the Lake Havasu City Police Department.
The suspect, identified as Giovanni M. Villegas Cortez, was discovered asleep on a couch in the bedroom of a residence in the 2000 block of Swanson Avenue. Officers responded to the scene at approximately 4:20 a.m. on August 23, after the homeowners reported finding the unknown man inside their home. Police say Cortez was taken into custody without incident.
The arrest was confirmed in the Lake Havasu City Police Department blotter, which lists Cortez as being booked on suspicion of first-degree criminal trespass—a Class 6 felony under Arizona law, applied when a person unlawfully enters an occupied residential structure.
As first reported by Havasu News and corroborated by posts on social media, the residents told police they did not know the suspect and had not given him permission to be inside the home. No injuries were reported.
Authorities have not disclosed how Cortez entered the home, and it remains unclear how long he was inside before being discovered. Police have not indicated whether alcohol or any other substances may have played a role in the incident.
Cortez was transported to the Mohave County jail and booked on the felony trespass charge. As of Sunday evening, there was no public record indicating whether he had retained legal counsel or posted bond.
