Los Banos, CA (November 14, 2025) — The District 1 seat on the Los Banos Planning Commission is currently vacant, with the term running through December 31, 2028. The Planning Commission carries out the duties established in the City’s Municipal Code, including reviewing zoning ordinances, subdivision regulations, and land-use matters affecting how property within city limits may be developed, divided, or used. The body studies long-term planning needs and provides formal recommendations to the Los Banos City Council on zoning changes, district boundaries, and permitted land uses.
The Commission consists of five members. Meetings are held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 520 J Street. For questions regarding the Planning Commission, residents can contact the Community & Economic Development Department at (209) 827-7000 ext. 2499 or email [email protected].
On November 12, District 1 Councilmember Mitzy Perez spent the day walking door-to-door to inform residents about the open seat. With historically low turnout in recent local elections, Perez said she wanted to take a more personal and proactive approach. “It’s important that new perspectives have a chance to be part of the decisions that guide how Los Banos grows,” Perez said. “District 1 deserves strong representation, and residents should feel the ownership in the choices that shape their neighborhoods. Talking with people one-on-one is the best way to make sure everyone knows they have an opportunity to participate.”
Applications for the District 1 Planning Commission seat will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2025. Residents must live within District 1 and be at least 18 years old.
