LOS BANOS, CA — On 08/22/24, at approximately 0225 hours, the Merced Communication Center (MCC) received a call of a crash on SR-152 west of Volta Rd., with medical personnel responding. Officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Los Banos Area responded to the scene and investigated the crash.
Preliminary investigation indicated Sean Hantz from Manteca, CA, was driving a 2016 Volvo, 3 axl truck pulling a box trailer, westbound SR-152 west of Volta Road in the #2 lane at 55 mph. A yet to be identfied male pedestrian walked into the #2 lane of SR-152, directly in front of the Volvo with their arms spread wide open. The front of the Volvo struck the pedestrian causing fatal injuries. The pedestrian was then struck several more times by passing motorists. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this crash.
