
Merced, CA (March 11, 2026) — University of California, Merced men’s track sprinter Martel Fields was named the FloCollege/CCAA Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, the conference announced yesterday afternoon.
Fields, who broke four of his own program-records at the Kim Duyst Invitational on Saturday, is UC Merced’s first ever track student-athlete to win a weekly award. He delivered the 100m, 200m, 4×100 relay, and 4×400 relay program-records. The Kim Duyst Invitational was hosted by Stanislaus State at Al Brenda Track at Warrior Stadium in Turlock, Calif. Fields’ top event of the weekend was the 200m dash, hitting the CCAA leading time of 21.14. His time was also good for second in the race and is currently second in the NCAA West Region. The junior started the Kim Duyst Invitational anchoring the 4×100 relay team to a win in 40.84. Naseem Hassaan, Medard Idi, and Nyj Joiner made up the relay squad with Fields. The time of 40.84 is currently second in the CCAA and NCAA West Region.
Fields clocked 10.56 in the 100m dash, good for a second place finish in the field of 51. He ranks fifth in the CCAA in the 100m dash. The Long Beach, Calif., native closed out his day joining Hassaan, Joiner, and Seneca Ybarra turning in a 4X400 time of 3:20.64, good for third in the race.
The Bobcats will continue their season on Saturday, March 14, at the Wildcat Invitational in Chico, Calif.
