
Rosaline Holmquist, age 82, of Gustine, California, passed away peacefully at Sutter Memorial Hospital in Modesto, California. Born and raised in the Newman and Gustine area, Rosaline was a beloved member of her community.
Rosaline grew up on the DeOliveira family ranch and dairy farm in Newman. She attended Orestimba Union High School, where she was a proud baton twirler and majorette, graduating in 1960 with numerous fine art awards and high honors. After graduation, she taught twirling classes for many years and enjoyed working at Azevedo’s Hardware Store.
On August 2, 1970, Rosaline married Leonard D. Holmquist. Together, they made their home in Gustine for 53 years. Through her marriage, Rosaline gained her cherished stepdaughter, Tracy Len Bartholomew, whom she lovingly referred to as her “special angel.” Rosaline was a devoted wife, mother, ava’, madrinha, and homemaker, known for her remarkable talents in doll making, crafting, sewing, painting, collecting, and decorating. She had a gift for making those around her feel special and valued, and her joyful spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Rosaline is survived by her stepdaughter, Tracy Bartholomew and husband, Rick Bartholomew. Grandchildren; Brandalen Bartholomew, Richard Bartholomew IV, Andrew Bartholomew, Hannah Bartholomew, Grace Bartholomew, and Malachi Bartholomew. Great-grandchildren; Aschlen, Finnleigh, Bentley, Savannah, Ezekiel, and Leona. Nieces; Jill Diefenderfer, Chylene Sousa, and Jennifer Miller. Nephews; Jeff DeOliveira, Darin DeOliveira, and Chad Smith and godchild, Lori Beffa.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leonard Holmquist; her parents, Manuel and Carrie DeOliveira; her brothers, Frank DeOliveira, Joaquin DeOliveira, and Manuel DeOliveira Jr.; her sister, Caroline Smith; and her nephew, Joel DeOliveira.
Rosaline’s warmth, creativity, and kindness touched the lives of many. She will be remembered with love and gratitude by her family and friends.
A committal service will be held on Friday, December 5th at 1:00 p.m. at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella, California. Rosaline will be interred at the same time and day as her husband, Leonard Holmquist.
