SANTA NELLA, Calif. — Dozens gathered Sunday morning, May 25, at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella to observe Memorial Day and pay tribute to those who died in military service.
The ceremony began at 9 a.m. with a solemn procession and the presentation of wreaths honoring fallen servicemembers. Attendees included families of veterans, local residents, and members of various veterans’ organizations. The U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden West performed several musical tributes throughout the event.
The program featured remarks by State Senator Anna Caballero and Assemblymember Esmeralda Soria. A moment of silence was held, followed by a rifle volley and the playing of Taps, offering a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces.
The event, hosted at 32053 West McCabe Road, was open to the public and drew visitors from across the Central Valley. Rows of American flags and the peaceful cemetery setting added to the ceremony’s emotional weight.
Organizers encouraged continued remembrance beyond the holiday weekend by visiting gravesites, supporting local veterans, and preserving the stories of those who served.
