Merced, CA (January 19, 2026) — A former Modesto City Schools junior high principal is facing criminal charges filed in Merced County stemming from an alleged inappropriate relationship with a minor, according to court records and statements released by Modesto City Schools. The former administrator, Brian Chubon, most recently served as principal at Roosevelt Junior High School in Modesto and is no longer employed by the district.

In a written statement, Modesto City Schools confirmed that the charges relate to alleged conduct involving a former student from outside the Modesto City Schools district. District officials stated that Chubon passed a criminal background check at the time of his hiring in 2022 and was promoted to principal in July 2025. The district said it first became aware of the allegations in December 2024 and reported the matter to law enforcement.

In a statement, Modesto City Schools said Merced County agencies were aware of the investigation when the allegations surfaced.

The case remains under the jurisdiction of Merced County, and further details are expected to become available through court proceedings or official statements from prosecutors or law enforcement. Anyone with information related to the matter is encouraged to contact law enforcement directly.
