Dos Palos Police Arrest Man on Criminal Threats and Firearm Charges Following Disturbance Call

Dos Palos, CA (February 26, 2026) — Officers with the Dos Palos Police Department responded to a reported disturbance on February 25 at approximately 12:50 p.m. in the 1800 block of Ida Street, according to a department statement.

During the investigation, officers arrested Christopher Smith, 40, of Dos Palos. Police said Smith was booked into the Merced County Jail on charges of criminal threats and possession of a loaded firearm in a public place.

According to the department, officers recovered a loaded firearm from Smith at the scene. Two additional weapons were also located and seized during the response.

Police stated the incident was resolved safely and that there is no ongoing threat to the public related to the case. The department also thanked community members who promptly reported the disturbance.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
