Winton, CA (January 9, 2026) — The Merced County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a 16-year-old juvenile in connection with a gang-related shooting that occurred late last month at the Cherrywood Apartments in Winton.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 4:29 p.m. on December 26, 2025, to a report of a shooting at the Cherrywood Apartments, located at 7194 North Winton Way. Investigators said a vehicle was struck by gunfire and sustained damage, but the victim was not injured.
Following an investigation, detectives determined the shooting was gang-related and identified a suspect. An arrest warrant was subsequently issued.
On January 9, 2026, deputies took the juvenile suspect into custody. The teen was booked into the Iris Garrett Juvenile Justice Complex on allegations of attempted murder, shooting at an occupied vehicle, and a gang enhancement.
