Winton, CA (November 10, 2025) — Early on Saturday morning (at about 2:14 a.m.), the California Highway Patrol Merced observed a Yamaha off-road vehicle traveling southbound on Winton Way near Bobbie Avenue.

When the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the rider fled. The short pursuit came to an abrupt end when the ATV lost control along a canal bank, overturned, and flipped.

The rider, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained minor injuries. He was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and felony evading.

Officials reminded the public that ATVs are not designed or licensed for on-road use, and operating one while impaired significantly increases the risk of injury or worse.
