SACRAMENTO, CA (October 8, 2025) – Assemblywoman Soria has issued the following statement after the tragic on-duty death of Chowchilla Police Officer Raymond Barrantes late Friday night:
“I am heartbroken after learning about the death of Officer Barrantes,” Soria said. “Our thoughts weigh heavily right now for the Barrantes family, their friends, loved ones, and the entire community of Chowchilla. This is an extremely difficult time for the Madera County region. Chowchilla, like most of our small valley communities—is like a family—so this loss is felt by everyone. Barrantes served his community honorably, and was a respected member of that community. Our prayers and sincere condolences are with the Barrantes family, their Chowchilla Police Department family, and those in the community mourning at this time.”

Assemblywoman Esmeralda Soria represents the 27th Assembly District, which includes communities in Fresno, Madera, and Merced counties.
