Rite Aid Closes Los Banos Store Amid Nationwide Bankruptcy Restructuring

On July 15, 2025 by Karissa Hernandez

LOS BANOS — The Rite Aid pharmacy at 1317 East Pacheco Boulevard permanently closed its doors on June 23, becoming the latest casualty in the company’s nationwide restructuring under Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The closure is part of Rite Aid’s ongoing effort to reduce debt and cut operational losses by shutting down underperforming locations. The Los Banos store was among the locations in California selected for liquidation as the chain works through its court-approved reorganization plan.

Rite Aid filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy for the second time on May 5, 2025, citing mounting liabilities and declining revenue across its national footprint. Hundreds of stores across the country have since been closed or sold to competitors.

The Los Banos location, situated along a busy commercial corridor near other major retailers, had long served as one of the city’s two primary chain pharmacies. Following the closure, customer prescriptions were transferred to nearby branches, according to Rite Aid’s official pharmacy locator.

The closure leaves Los Banos residents with fewer big-brand pharmacy options, though services remain available through Walgreens, CVS Pharmacy inside the Target store on West Pacheco Boulevard, and several locally operated independent drugstores.

As of mid-July, city officials have not announced any new tenant for the now-vacant Rite Aid building. The site’s future remains uncertain as the community adjusts to the loss of a longtime local pharmacy.

Rite Aid has not provided details on whether additional stores in the surrounding region will be affected in the next phase of its restructuring.
