Los Banos, CA (March 5, 2026) — The City of Los Banos is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy on the City Council representing District 2, following the resignation of Councilmember Evan Sanders, who stepped down after accepting a job opportunity on the East Coast.

City officials announced that qualified residents of District 2 may apply to be appointed to the council. The person selected will serve the remainder of the current term, which runs through December 2026.

The City of Los Banos is accepting applications through the City Clerk’s Office, with a deadline of 5:00 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2026. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

Interested applicants must submit a completed application form and may include additional supporting materials. Applications can be submitted by email to [email protected] or delivered in person to Los Banos City Hall, 520 J Street.

According to the city’s official notice, applicants must meet several eligibility requirements in order to be considered for appointment. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, registered voters, and residents of Los Banos City Council District 2. Voter registration information submitted with applications will be verified by the city.

Individuals appointed to the council will also be required to complete a Form 700 Statement of Economic Interests, a disclosure required under California’s Political Reform Act that identifies financial interests that could present potential conflicts in public decision-making.

The Los Banos City Council serves as the city’s legislative body, responsible for adopting ordinances and resolutions, approving the city’s annual budget, and setting policy for municipal operations. Councilmembers also appoint key positions such as the City Manager and City Attorney and provide direction on major issues including infrastructure, public safety, economic development, and land use.

Regular council meetings are held on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 6 p.m., though additional special meetings or closed sessions may be scheduled as necessary.

Councilmembers in Los Banos receive $300 per month in compensation and are eligible for city-provided health, dental, and vision benefits under the same contribution structure offered to city employees.

Once the application period closes, the City Council is expected to review the submitted applications and conduct interviews during a public meeting. Following the interview process, the council will vote to appoint a candidate to fill the District 2 seat.

The appointment will restore the five-member council to full representation after Sanders’ departure.

Residents interested in applying can obtain application materials and additional information from the City of Los Banos City Clerk’s Office or the city’s official website.
