Atwater, CA (February 10, 2026) — Atwater law enforcement announced a second arrest on February 9th in connection with the death of a 4-month-old baby found unresponsive in an Atwater residence late last month.

Detectives from the Atwater Police Department took Jasmine Polk, a 20-year-old woman identified as an Atwater resident, into custody earlier today. She now faces charges tied to the infant’s death, which occurred on January 23 at a home in the 600 block of Cedar Avenue near Castle Street.

This arrest follows the recent detention of the child’s father, Maleek McIntyre, who was booked into the Merced County Jail in early February on a separate murder charge in connection with the case.

Officials have not released further details about Polk’s specific charges or her alleged role in the infant’s death. The investigation remains active as detectives continue to gather evidence and collaborate with the Merced County District Attorney’s Office.

Atwater Police extended condolences to the family and community as the investigation progresses and urged anyone with information to contact their department.
