Los Banos, CA (January 29, 2026) — San José police have arrested a suspect in connection with multiple armed robberies in San José, with authorities confirming the arrest took place in Los Banos.

According to the San José Police Department, officers first responded on January 17, 2026, at approximately 8:25 p.m., to an armed robbery at a liquor store in the 1700 block of McKee Road. Police said two suspects arrived in a red Corvette and entered the store. One suspect allegedly brandished a knife at the victim while the second suspect demanded cash and threatened to kill the victim. Investigators said one suspect emptied two cash registers and handed the money to the other before both fled the scene prior to police arrival.

A second armed robbery was reported the following night, January 18, 2026, at approximately 11:26 p.m., at a convenience store in the 800 block of Coleman Avenue, according to police. SJPD said two suspects confronted the victim, with one brandishing a knife while the other threatened to shoot the victim if the cash register was not opened. Police stated the victim feared for his life. The suspects took cash and fled.

On January 21, 2026, SJPD Robbery Unit detectives were notified through the department’s Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system that the red Corvette associated with the robberies was in San José. Patrol officers attempted to locate the vehicle but lost sight of it. The Corvette was later found abandoned and unoccupied.

Later that same day, police said the primary suspect, Mohamed Husein, was involved in an additional carjacking in San José that led to a multi-jurisdictional pursuit and several officer-involved shootings.

During the subsequent investigation, detectives identified Edward Macias as the second suspect involved in the earlier armed robberies. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant and a search warrant.

On January 22, 2026, detectives, with assistance from SJPD’s Covert Response Unit, located and apprehended Macias in the city of Los Banos, police said. During the search, detectives reported locating evidence related to the robberies.

Macias was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on charges related to robbery and conspiracy.
