Los Banos, CA (December 10, 2025) — Shaunessy Village Park is entering its final phase of construction, marking a significant step forward for a project that has faced years of delays, community frustration, and administrative hurdles. City officials confirmed that the neighborhood park, originally planned more than a decade ago as part of the Shaunessy Village subdivision, is now nearing completion with playground structures, shade canopies, turf, and picnic areas in place.
A key factor in the park’s long timeline involved the transfer of the parcel to the City of Los Banos. Although the land had been designated for public park use when the subdivision was created, the city did not formally accept the grant deed for the 2.33-acre site until March 2025. City records and council minutes show that construction planning and bid awards had already occurred prior to the acceptance. The staff report for that meeting noted that the unresolved land transfer had affected the project’s ability to advance. Public documents do not specify whether the delay originated with the city, the developer, or administrative processes involving both, and no official report assigns responsibility.
Following the formal acceptance of the deed, the project moved forward quickly. Updated designs were approved, construction contracts progressed, and work ramped up through 2024 and 2025. As of now, crews are completing landscaping, safety surfacing, pathways, and other finishing elements as the park approaches completion.
The city has not yet announced an official opening date, but visible progress suggests Shaunessy Village Park is in its final stretch. Once open, it will provide long-awaited recreational space for families in one of the fastest-growing neighborhoods in Los Banos.
Residents who have watched the empty lot remain undeveloped for many years say they are eager to see the park finally become a reality, transforming a long-planned community feature into a fully built neighborhood amenity.
