SNIP Bus Brings Big Impact to Los Banos: 75 Pets Spayed and Neutered in Just Two Days

Los Banos, CA (December 10, 2025) — A two-day spay and neuter event brought major progress to local animal welfare efforts last week, with 75 dogs and cats receiving services through the SNIP Bus mobile clinic. The event, organized in partnership with community volunteers, provided low-cost, high-impact care aimed at reducing pet overpopulation in Los Banos and surrounding areas.

The SNIP Bus team, known across the Central Valley for its high-volume, affordable clinics, spent two full days in the community performing surgeries for spay and neuter services. The SNIP helps to make these services accessible for residents who may otherwise face financial or transportation barriers.

A Facebook post from Los Banos Animal Shelter praised the snip bus.

“We’re so grateful for the SNIP Bus team for their hard work, patience, and dedication.”

Local animal advocates say events like this are not only beneficial but essential. Merced County faces ongoing challenges with stray and abandoned animals, a trend shared by many rural California communities. Public records and shelter reports in recent years show that local shelters regularly take in thousands of dogs and cats annually, which can lead to overcrowding, high intake numbers, and limited kennel space. Spay and neuter programs remain one of the most effective tools available to reduce these pressures over time.

Animal welfare data consistently shows that a single unspayed female cat and her offspring can produce dozens of kittens within just a few years, and similar exponential growth occurs in dogs. Reducing even a small number of potential litters can have a meaningful long-term impact on the number of animals entering local shelters or living outdoors without stable care. For communities like Los Banos, proactive spay and neuter events help decrease stray populations, improve overall animal health, and reduce costs associated with animal control and shelter operations.
