Merced, CA (December 9, 2025) — Merced police have arrested 40-year-old Eric Devon Beavers in connection with the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Davarion Granados, who was killed while walking home on Nov. 19. Detectives with the Merced Police Department and the Merced Area Gang and Narcotic Enforcement Team served a search warrant Monday morning at 4000 Cinnabar Court, where Beavers was taken into custody without incident, according to Lt. Jose Barajas. Beavers was booked into the Merced County Jail on December 8, 2025, at 12:51 p.m. on charges including murder, possession of a controlled substance, prohibited person in possession of ammunition, and felon/addict in possession of a firearm. Jail records note that posted charges may reflect new arrests, court-ordered transfers, or failures to appear, and all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Barajas said the killing is believed to be gang-related. Historical state records confirm that Beavers has prior documented ties to the Merced Gangster Crips (MGC). According to a 2009 California Attorney General press release titled “Brown Announces Takedown of Merced Gangster Crips,” Beavers, then 23, was among 15 individuals arrested during a multi-agency operation targeting what the Attorney General described as a “notorious and violent” Merced-based street gang involved in drug trafficking, weapons sales, and organized criminal activity. That investigation uncovered various narcotics and multiple loaded firearms, resulting in a 31-count indictment against MGC members.

Granados’ killing occurred at about 9:45 p.m. on the 400 block of Lesher Street outside an apartment complex where the teen lived. Police did not initially release his name, but his mother, Maria Granados, later identified him publicly. Family members said Davarion had been walking home after spending time with friends and was on the phone with his father when gunfire erupted, leaving him dead at the scene. The investigation into the shooting remains active as detectives continue gathering evidence ahead of court proceedings.
