Stockton, CA (December 2, 2025) — A Stockton woman whose 2017 DUI crash near Los Banos drew national attention after she livestreamed the aftermath has been killed in a drive-by shooting in Stockton. The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office reported that a woman and a man were shot shortly after 7 p.m. on Tuesday near Gertrude Avenue and Fremont Street in east Stockton. Both were transported to a hospital, where the woman later died. The second victim’s condition has not been released, and investigators have not publicly confirmed the woman’s identity.
Multiple media outlets, including ABC10 and 209 Times, have reported that the victim was 26-year-old Obdulia “Lulu” Sanchez of Stockton. Sanchez was 18 when she crashed her car near Los Banos on July 21, 2017, killing her 14-year-old sister Jacquelin and injuring another 14-year-old passenger. The crash occurred on a rural stretch in Merced County near Henry Miller Road and Highway 165. Court records and CHP investigators said Sanchez had been under the influence at the time. Both girls in the back seat were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected when the car veered off the roadway, went through a barbed-wire fence, and overturned in a field. A livestream video recorded by Sanchez before and after the crash circulated widely on social media.
In February 2018, Sanchez was sentenced in Merced County Superior Court to six years and four months in state prison after pleading no contest to gross vehicular manslaughter, DUI causing injury, and related charges tied to the Los Banos-area crash. According to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, she was released on parole on September 21, 2019, after earning custody credits.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office has not released any suspect information or motive in Tuesday night’s shooting. The investigation remains active, and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (209) 468-4400.
